The main antagonist. 800 years ago, he was the first ninja, but corrupted by power. Now a green, gluttonous specter chained beneath the school, he creates the "Monsters of the Week" by possessing inanimate objects with his "McFist" corporation's waste. He is grotesque, hilarious, and genuinely threatening.
Randy accidentally discovers his destiny when the previous ninja passes the mantle to him before being devoured by a monster. Now, along with his best (and more intelligent) friend , Randy must protect Norrisville from an endless wave of monsters created by the present-day Hannibal McFist (descendant of the original villain) and his scientist assistant Vicerian , under the guises of a used car salesman and school janitor respectively. Randy Cunningham 9th Grade Ninja - Season 1
Season 1 of Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja succeeded because it didn't take itself too seriously, yet never talked down to its audience. It took the classic "chosen one" trope and subverted it by giving the hero a manual (the NinjaNomicon) that he frequently chose to ignore or misinterpret, leading to hilarious consequences.
"Randy Cunningham: 9th Grade Ninja" is a Disney XD animated series that aired from 2007 to 2008. The show revolves around Randy Cunningham, a 9th-grade student who becomes the secret Ninja Warrior of his school, James K. Polk Middle School. With the help of his sensei, Master Ssj3Tenshinhan (also known as Mr. Tenshinhan), Randy battles villains and navigates middle school life.
But there is a massive catch. The suit, while granting incredible powers (super strength, agility, wall-crawling, and the "Shredfist"), runs on the user’s "Ninja Energy." If that energy runs out, the suit detaches—forcing Randy to fight in his underwear. Worse, if Randy’s identity is ever revealed, the Ninja’s powers will vanish forever, and a "Terror of Leary" (an apocalyptic event) will be unleashed. This setup allows Season 1 to blend monster-of-the-week battles with episodic robot skirmishes. The "Stank" mechanic serves as a brilliant metaphorical tool: Randy literally has to fight the manifestations of high school anxiety, toxic peer pressure, and adolescent insecurity. A billionaire who disguises his evil acts as "McFist" branded products. He wants the Ninja gone to clear the way for his villainy.
During its initial run on Disney XD, Randy Cunningham performed decently but struggled to break out as a major mainstream hit. User reviews generally rate the show highly, praising the "original, intriguing and well mixed" story of humor and action, as well as the "stunning" visual color palette. The voice acting, particularly Ben Schwartz and Tim Curry, is often singled out as some of the "BEST" in animation. The following are selected highlights from the 52
Randy’s best friend. Howard is selfish, lazy, and often chaotic, providing comedic relief and representing the "9th-grade" reality of wanting to play games and eat nachos.
Imprisoned for 800 years beneath Norrisville High School, the Sorcerer (Tim Curry) is the ultimate source of evil. He cannot escape unless his power is amplified by negative human emotions. This mechanic drives the plot of almost every episode. When a student experiences extreme humiliation, anger, or sadness, the Sorcerer unleashes "Stank"—a noxious green mist that mutates the student into a giant monster reflecting their emotional trauma. This format acts as a clever metaphor for how overwhelming and monstrous teenage emotions can feel. Hannibal McFist and Viceroy
For eight centuries, the town of Norrisville has relied on a single ninja to guard against dark forces. A new hero is chosen every four years, and this time, the duty falls to Randy. Armed with a superhuman ninja suit and the —an ancient, sentient guidebook that offers cryptic advice—Randy must battle monsters while keeping his identity a secret from everyone except his best friend, Howard Weinerman. Key Characters and Voice Cast
Enthusiastic, reckless, but deeply caring. He uses the phrase "Smokin'!" when transformed and "Bruce!" to express surprise.
The emotional anchor of the series is the relationship between Randy and Howard. In many superhero tropes, the best friend serves as the "guy in the chair" or the unquestioning support system. Howard breaks this mold. He is fiercely loyal but also incredibly selfish, lazy, and jealous of the attention Randy gets as the Ninja.
