Piston traps leverage in-game mechanical blocks (pistons, sticky pistons) to manipulate other blocks and entities. They are valued for versatility: automatic activation, concealment, and possibility to integrate with other systems (doors, dispensers, redstone clocks). Well-designed piston traps balance reliability, resource cost, and stealth.

Not all traps kill. A piston facing sideways, hidden behind a painting, can push a player off a ledge or into a 1x1 water pit. This is a favorite on Lovely Craft survival servers for "tax collection" bridges.

Run a line of redstone dust over the top of the blocks holding the torches. Step 4: Connecting the Trigger Lay down your floor blocks leading up to the trap door.

Dig directly beneath the pressure plate and run redstone dust to a block holding a redstone torch. The torch keeps the pistons extended by default, holding the hallway open.
