MAME (Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator) is a popular emulator for arcade games, allowing users to play classic arcade titles on their computers. The MAME ROM set is a collection of game data, including ROMs (Read-Only Memory) and other files required to run each game.
Because this romset is based on 2003 architecture, it does not support games released after that year. Furthermore, resource-heavy 3D arcade hardware from the late 90s is either missing or unplayable:
MAME organizes games using a parent-clone hierarchy. A "Parent" ROM contains the original, full game data (e.g., the US release of a game). A "Clone" ROM contains only the code differences for another region or revision (e.g., the Japanese release). If you use a "Split" romset, a clone game will not work unless the parent ROM is present in the same folder.
